The Pine City Physical Education Program focuses on the development of fitness for life. Our program contributes to each student’s growth and development in the physical, mental, and social domains through being physically active. Physical Education is an important and unique part of the daily instructional program. It contributes to the development and maintenance of fitness, motor skills, social skills, health and cognitive development. Pine City’s physical education goal is to foster and maintain each student’s best level of health.
Materials- Materials used will be equipment (balls, sticks, exercise videos, etc.) suitable to the activity being taught. Written tests will be given at the end of each unit. Study guides prepared by the instructor will be available approximately one week prior to the test via email per student request.
Lockers & Locks- Each student will be issued a locker and combination lock. If lock is lost, a new one will be issued at the cost of $5.00. The physical education department will not be liable for any items lost or stolen in the locker room, remember to lock your lockers.
Notes & Excuses- In order to be excused from class participation, a note from a parent, school nurse, or doctor must be brought to your teacher at the beginning of your period. Lack of a note means participation points will be a zero for the day. You must have a written medical slip to be excused for more than a week.
GRADING FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Participation, Behavior, Dress: 50% of Grade- Students receive 10pts each day- points can be made up (optional) by completing a written assignment if the student misses class for a school function or other excused absent. Written assignments can be found on the teacher’s webpage and must be completed within 2 weeks of absence.
** If student does not change for physical education they will be held out of activity for that day, resulting in a loss of their 10 daily points. Upon completion of a written assignment that student will be granted 5 points back for participation (no opportunity to make up dress points). If the student does not comply with the dress expectations, 3 times per quarter, detention will be given.
Skills Observation/ Skills Test: 25% of Grade- Ability, mechanics, and effort to master skills being taught. Demonstration of working with others and showing leadership. Scores received during any skills tests and or observations throughout the unit.
Written Test: 25% of Grade- Rules, history, class material, etc. Students can request a study guide for the unit anytime before the exam day. Retakes are available for students, meet with the teacher to request a time.
